Es folgt eine Liste chaotischer Gebiete auf der Marsoberfläche. Die Nomenklatur des Mars wird von der Internationalen Astronomischen Union (IAU) geregelt und die Liste enthält nur exogeologische Formationen, die von dieser Institution offiziell anerkannt sind. Verwaltet werden die Listen vom US Geological Survey (USGS) im Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature (siehe Weblinks). Sie werden online aktualisiert.
Die chaotischen Gebiete (lat. Chaos) des Mars tragen die Namen der Albedos, die auf den Marskarten von Eugène Michel Antoniadi und Giovanni Virginio Schiaparelli zu finden sind, die sich wiederum auf Begriffe aus der klassischen griechischen und römischen Kultur beziehen.Categories (Themes) for Naming Features on Planets and Satellites
