Die 27ste Oscar-toekenningsaand is op 30 Maart 1955 deur die Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood en New York gehou om erkenning te gee aan die rolprente van 1954.
Sam Spiegel was die vervaardiger en Elia Kazan die regisseur van die beste rolprent, On the Waterfront. Die prent het 12 benoemings gehad en 8 Oscars gewen, en het die rekord geëwenaar van Gone with the Wind (1940) en From Here to Eternity (1954). Die swart-wit prent, met ’n lae begroting en Marlon Brando in die hoofrol, vertel die verhaal van dokwerkers in New York asook van wreedheid en korrupsie.
In die kategorie vir beste akteur het Brando weer te staan gekom teen Humphrey Bogart, wat hom drie jaar tevore geklop het om die Oscar. In ’n verrassende wending het Brando gewen (Bing Crosby was die gunsteling) – dit was Brando se eerste Oscar en dit word steeds as een van die beste rolprentuitbeeldings beskou.
