Die Härtsfeldbahn – im Volksmund SchättereDer Spitzname Schättere bezieht sich primär auf die Dampflokomotiven und die Züge. Er ist abgeleitet von dem lautmalenden Verb schättern und bedeutet so viel wie „Krachmacherin“ (die schwäbische Endung -e entspricht hochdeutsch -in). genannt – war eine Schmalspurbahn über das im Osten Baden-Württembergs gelegene Härtsfeld mit Weiterführung nach Bayern. Ausgangspunkt der meterspurigen Nebenbahn war Aalen; über Neresheim führte sie ab 1901 zunächst bis Ballmertshofen und erreicht ab ihrer 1909 in Betrieb genommenen Verlängerung nach insgesamt 55,49 Kilometern Dillingen an der Donau. Der Personenverkehr endete am 30. September 1972, der Güterverkehr zwei Monate später. Die Gleisanlagen wurden danach demontiert. Zwei Abschnitte wurden von einem Verein als Museumsbahn wieder aufgebaut und 2001 bzw. 2021 fertiggestellt. Die Museumsstrecke von Neresheim bis zum Bahnhof Katzenstein am Härtsfeldsee misst 5,5 km.
