Die Distrikte Malaysias sind Verwaltungseinheiten unterhalb der Bundesstaaten. Auf Malaiisch werden sie meist als daerah bezeichnet; in Kelantan ist auch die Bezeichnung jajahan gebräuchlich. Insgesamt gibt es knapp 160 Distrikte, wobei durch Verwaltungsreformen die Anzahl der Distrikte mit der Zeit angestiegen ist.
Rolle als Verwaltungseinheiten Die Distrikte bilden in Malaysia eine wichtige Ebene der staatlichen Verwaltung unterhalb der Bundesstaaten beziehungsweise Bundesterritorien. In Westmalaysia sind sie in der Regel Untereinheiten der Bundesstaaten; in Sabah und Sarawak stehen sie unterhalb der größeren Divisionen. Geleitet werden die Distrikte sie von Distriktbeamten oder Residents, die von der jeweiligen staatlichen Dienstkommission oder dem malaysischen öffentlichen Dienst ernannt werden. Die Distrikte dienen vor allem der allgemeinen Staats-, Land- und Entwicklungsverwaltung sowie der statistischen Erfassung.
Gliederung In Westmalaysia werden die Bundesstaaten auf Distriktebene meist in daerah gegliedert; in Kelantan wird für entsprechende Verwaltungseinheiten auch die Bezeichnung jajahan verwendet. Unterhalb der Distrikte stehen vor allem die Mukim für ländliche und halburbane Gebiete, die für Landverwaltung und statistische Zwecke bedeutsam sind sowie die Städte. Einige größere Distrikte sind über der Mukim-Ebene weiter in autonome Unterbezirke (daerah kecil; wörtlich „kleiner Distrikt“) unterteilt. Für Sabah und Sarawak gibt es noch die Divisionen oberhalb der Distrikte. Die Bundesterritorien folgen eigenen Gliederungen; Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya und Labuan sind keine Bundesstaaten und werden unmittelbar vom Bund verwaltet. Perlis wiederum ist ein Bundesstaat ohne Distrikteinteilung aufgrund seiner geringen Fläche.
