James L. Enyeart (* 13. Januar 1943; † 28. November 2025)Nachruf (Obituary) im Santa Fe New Mexican vom 8. Februar 2026. war ein amerikanischer Fotograf, Wissenschaftler und Museumsdirektor. Von 1989 bis 1995 diente Enyeart als Direktor des renommierten George Eastman House in Rochester, New York. Davor war er von 1977 bis 1989 Direktor des Zentrums für kreative Fotografie an der University of Arizona.
Von 1968 bis 1976 war er zunächst Kurator für Fotografie am University of Kansas Museum of Art (heute Helen Foresman Spencer Museum of Art),Wobei er auch eine Ausstellung mit Zeichnungen dort kuratierte und den Katalog dazu herausbrachte (Drawings by Nine West Coast Painters. University of Kansas Museum of Art, Lawrence 197? [ohne Datum]). zuvor führte er kurz die von Ansel Adams gegründete Friends of Photography in Carmel, Kalifornien, bevor er die Leitung des Center for Creative Photography an der University of Arizona (Tucson, AZ) übernahm. 1989 ging Enyeart an das George Eastman House (heute George Eastman Museum) in Rochester, New York, wo er bis 1995 der sechste Direktor der Einrichtung blieb. Von 1995 bis 2002 leitete er als Gründungsdirektor das Anne and John Marion Center for Photographic Arts des katholischen College of Santa Fe (heute Santa Fe University of Art and Design) und war dann emeritierter Anne and John Marion Professor. Auch andere Professuren füllte er während seiner Museumstätigkeiten aus.
Publikationen Von James L. Enyeart sind lediglich Anfang bis Mitte der 1970er Jahre Bücher mit seinen Fotografien veröffentlicht worden, insbesondere die Kansas Survey mit einer National Endowment for the Arts. Seitdem war er jedoch an einer großen Zahl an Buchveröffentlichungen als Herausgeber oder mit einem Textbeitrag beteiligt.
