mini|Lilian Hamilton Jeffery Lilian Hamilton „Anne“ Jeffery (* 5. Januar 1915 in Westcliff-on-Sea; † 29. September 1986 in Oxford) war eine britische Archäologin, Klassische Philologin und Epigraphikerin, die vor allem für ihr 1961 erschienenes Werk The Local Scripts of Archaic Greece bekannt ist. Aufbauend auf den Arbeiten von Adolf Kirchhoff und Antony E. Raubitschek untersuchte Jeffery die Entwicklung des griechischen Alphabets von dessen Entstehung im 8. Jahrhundert v. Chr. bis ins 5. Jahrhundert v. Chr. und begründete damit die Chronologie archaischer Inschriften.
Leben Lilian (Anne) Jeffery wurde als Tochter von Thomas Theophilus Jeffery, einem Lehrer und Dozenten für Klassische Philologie, und Lilian Mary Hamilton geboren. Sie besuchte das Cheltenham Ladies' College und erhielt 1933 ein Stipendium für Klassische Studien am Newnham College, Cambridge, wo sie bei Jocelyn Toynbee studierte.
1937 erhielt sie das Walton-Stipendium für die British School at Athens. Dort arbeitete sie an Antony E. Raubitscheks Forschungen zu den Skulpturenfragmenten und Inschriften der Akropolis mit, die in dessen 1949 veröffentlichtes Buch Dedications from the Athenian Akropolis eingingen. Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs diente sie in der Women's Auxiliary Air Force; zu ihren Aufgaben gehörte unter anderem die nachrichtendienstliche Auswertung von Luftaufnahmen.
1946 trat sie eine Stelle als Research Fellow an Lady Margaret Hall in Oxford an. Dort blieb sie – abgesehen von einem Forschungsaufenthalt am Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton von September 1951 bis Juni 1952 – während ihrer gesamten weiteren Laufbahn tätig. Zu ihren archäologischen Arbeiten zählten die Teilnahme an den Feldforschungen der British School in Alt-Smyrna (Bayraklı) im Jahr 1949.
