Seymour Edwin Harris (* 8. September 1897 in New York City; † 27. Leben und Wirken Seymour Edwin Harris studierte Wirtschaftswissenschaft an der Harvard University. Dort legte er 1920 die Bachelorprüfung ab und promovierte 1926 zum Ph.D. Von 1922 bis 1964 war er als Hochschullehrer an der Harvard University tätig, wo er allerdings erst 1954 eine ordentliche Professur erhielt. Bereits 1945 war er zum Mitglied der American Academy of Arts and Sciences gewählt worden. Von 1964 bis 1973 hatte er eine Gastprofessur an der University of California, San Diego inne. Harris war insbesondere ein Wirtschaftsberater bedeutender US-amerikanischer Politiker. Zwischen 1954 und 1956 beriet er Adlai Stevenson. Anschließend wirkte er als Berater von John F. Kennedy, zunächst während seiner Amtszeit als Senator, dann als US-Präsident. Außerdem beriet er Douglas Dillon, den amerikanischen Finanzminister, und schließlich die Regierung von Lyndon B. Johnson. Harris war ein Vertreter des Keynesianismus. Er veröffentlichte zahlreiche, z. T. umfangreiche Werke über die Wirtschaft bzw. Wirtschaftspolitik der USA und zu Themen der dortigen Wirtschaftsgeschichte.
