Robert Alan Fernea (* 25. Januar 1932 in Vancouver, Washington; † 15. Dezember 2017 in San Diego, Kalifornien) war ein US-amerikanischer Ethnologe und Hochschullehrer.Robert A. Fernea '54. Leben und Wirken Robert A. Fernea studierte Soziologie und legte die Bachelorprüfung 1954 am Reed College ab. Den Magistergrad erwarb er 1955 an der University of Chicago und promovierte dort 1959 im Fach Ethnologie zum Ph.D. Im Jahre 1956 heiratete er Elizabeth Janet Warnock, die sich ebenfalls dem Gebiet der Ethnologie widmete. Von 1956 bis 1958 betrieben beide Feldforschungen im Irak. Von 1959 bis 1965 arbeitete Fernea als Hochschullehrer an der American University in Cairo. Nach der Rückkehr des Ehepaares hielt sich Robert A. Fernea ein Jahr zu enem Forschungsaufenthalt an der Harvard University auf. Ab 1966 lehrte er dann als Professor an der University of Texas at Austin, zusammen mit seiner Frau. Er führte bis 1992 eine Reihe weiterer Feldforschungen im Nahen und Mittleren Osten durch und veröffentlichte hierüber.
