Die Rallye Indonesien wurde zweimal ausgetragen als Weltmeisterschaftslauf (WRC) in den Jahren 1996 und 1997. Die Rallye wurde auf Schotterstraßen gefahren und sollte eigentlich auch im Jahr 1998 gefahren werden. Wegen nationalen Unruhen in den betroffenen Gebieten musste die Veranstaltung aus dem Rallye-Weltmeisterschaftskalender gestrichen werden. Aktuell ist die Rallye Indonesien Teil der Asien-Pazifik-Rallyemeisterschaft die FIA. Für die Zukunft streben die Veranstalter eine erneute Ausrichtung im Rahmen der FIA-Rallye-Weltmeisterschaft an.
