Die 80ste Oscar-toekenningsaand is op 24 Februarie 2008 deur die Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Hollywood gehou om erkenning te gee aan die rolprente van 2007. Jon Stewart was die aanbieder.
No Country for Old Men het die meeste Oscars gewen (vier), onder meer vir beste prent en regisseur. Ander wenners sluit in The Bourne Ultimatum (drie) en La Vie en Rose en There Will Be Blood (twee elk).
Skrywerstaking ’n Staking deur die Amerikaanse Skrywersgilde, wat op 5 November 2007 begin het, het gedreig om die Oscars in die wiele te ry. Die staking het gegaan oor die betaling van draaiboekskrywers vir die vertoning van hul werk op DVD's, die internet en ander moderne media.
Omdat gevrees is die staking kan op Oscar-aand nog voortduur, is ’n tweede seremonie beplan waar draaiboekskrywers se werk nie vertoon sou word en wat nie vereis het dat akteurs hul pryse self moet ontvang nie. Dit sou baie musieknommers insluit asook historiese rolprentgrepe om die 80ste jaar van die Oscars te beklemtoon.
Die staking is egter op 12 Februarie beëindig ná ’n voorlopige ooreenkoms met die Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, en die seremonie kon normaalweg voortgaan.
