Haar doorbraakrol kwam in 1956, in de film The Searchers. Verder noemenswaardig zijn haar rollen in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Sergeant Ryker en Hellfighters. Ook was ze te zien in de Hitchcock-films The Wrong Man en Psycho. Ze hernam de rol van Lila Crane in Psycho II, hoewel ze zichzelf daar Lila Loomis noemt. In de film vermeldt ze dat haar man Sam Loomis is overleden.Script Psycho II
Miles' laatste wapenfeit stamt uit 1995, toen ze een rol speelde in de film Separate Lives.
