Mutengene (Cham City) is a neighborhood and transit hub in the Fako Division of Cameroon's South West region. Officially administered under the Tiko Municipality, it connects major economic centers and acts as an economic hub of its own.
History Originally a small village, Mutengene has grown into a vibrant urban area in the Tiko Municipality. The towns growth is tied to its strategic location at the intersection of major roads linking Buea, Limbe, and Tiko, and the presence of the rubber production and processing industry. Mutengene was detached from the Buea administration and officially attached to the newly created Tiko Council.
Location Mutengene sits directly at the junction of National Roads 3 and 8 in the Tiko municipality with coordinates 4.0901° N, 9.3170° E. It bridges the highway lines between Douala, Buea, Limbe, and Kumba. { "type": "FeatureCollection", "features": [

] } Education Mutengene operates a dual educational system based on the British (Anglophone) and French (Francophone) sub-systems, serving both local students and commuter from nearby communities as it sits at the intersection of roads leading to Buea, Limbe, and Douala. While public education is a fixture, Mutengene relies heavily on private and denominational (mission) schools with the Catholic and Baptist sub-systems doing the most to fulfill its educational demands amongst others.
Socio-economic Environment The town is dominated by petty trading, transit services, and agriculture—specifically rubber tree cultivation and raw rubber harvesting linked to Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC). The Anglophone crisis plaguing the English speaking regions of cameroon has had a great impact on the economic growth of the community, with companies cutting off workers and many others loosing their lives, driving the town into an economic recession.
