Jan Bednář is a Czech entrepreneur who founded ShipMonk, an American company that provides order fulfilment services to online retailers. He served as its chief executive officer until 2023.

Early life and education Bednář grew up in Bakov nad Jizerou in the Czech Republic. As a teenager, he moved to Florida, where he attended Cardinal Gibbons High School. He graduated from Florida Atlantic University in 2014, having majored in management information systems.

Career While studying at Florida Atlantic University, Bednář started BedaBox, a service that bought and forwarded products from the United States to customers abroad. The business won the student category of the university's 2014 business plan competition and joined its Tech Runway incubator.

After an online retailer approached him in 2015 about handling its orders, Bednář expanded the business into storage and order fulfilment. The fulfilment business was renamed ShipMonk in 2016. Bednář initially ran the business alone; Kevin Sides and Václav Jareš then joined as co-founders.

ShipMonk received $290 million in growth capital from Summit Partners in 2020. The company developed its own software for managing inventory and fulfilment and expanded its operations in the US and abroad.

In June 2023, Bednář stepped down as ShipMonk's chief executive and was succeeded by Josh McCarter. He became focused more on investments; and in 2025 interview he discussed the work of his family office, Bedrox Capital.

Recognition Bednář was included in the 2018 Forbes 30 Under 30 list for retail and e-commerce. In 2022, he was one of the national winners of the US EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards. That year, he also won the Personality of the Year category of the Czech Křišťálová Lupa internet awards.
