History
The Place Vendôme section was established in 1790; this administrative district became the "Section des Piques" in 1792 and subsequently the "Place-Vendôme Quarter" in 1795. It was located within Paris's 1st arrondissement, with boundaries extending from Place Vendôme and following—to the left—the streets of Neuve-des-Petits-Champs, Louis-le-Grand, Chaussée-d'Antin, Saint-Lazare, Arcade, Madeleine, Faubourg-Saint-Honoré, and Saint-Honoré, returning to Place Vendôme.Jean de La Tynna, Dictionnaire topographique, étymologique et historique des rues de Paris, 1817.
A new administrative quarter was created by the Imperial decree of November 1, 1859; the attached map defined the quarter as follows: "Place Vendôme Quarter (sic). A line starting from Rue de Rivoli and following the axis of the streets of (sic) Saint-Florentin, Richepance, and Duphot; the streets of Neuve-des-Capucines, Neuve-des-Petits-Champs, Neuve-Saint-Roch, and Dauphin; and Rue de Rivoli, returning to the starting point..."Jean-Baptiste Duvergier, Collection complète des lois, décrets, ordonnances, règlements et avis du Conseil d'État, publiée sur les éditions officielles du Louvre: de l'Imprimerie nationale, par Baudouin ; et du Bulletin des lois, « year 1859 », 1859, p.372 (décret 1st November 1859, Tableau indicatif des circonscriptions des nouveaux arrondissements et quartiers de Paris, selon le plan annexé au décret).
