The Big Ten Men's Golf Championship, played in late April or early May, is an annual 54-hole, stroke-play collegiate tournament for all eighteen teams in the Big Ten Conference. Teams play 18 holes daily over three days to determine both a team champion and an individual medalist. Five players compete for each team, with the lowest four individual scores counting toward the team's daily total. The school with the lowest 54-hole cumulative total secures the conference championship and earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I men's golf championship.
The first championship, held in 1920, was a match play team competition, but since 1921, the competition has been a stroke play format, changing number of holes and contributing number of players over the years.
