Marvel Games is the video game brand and division responsible for licensing and overseeing video games based on Marvel properties. It is part of the Disney Games Group, within Disney Entertainment. Prior to the incorporation of Marvel Games, video games based on Marvel properties were handled by Marvel Comics Group from 1982 to 1985, Marvel Entertainment Group from 1986 to 1998, and subsequently by Marvel Enterprises until the establishment of Marvel Games.
History
Marvel Games was established in March 2009 as a dedicated video game group within Marvel Entertainment, responsible for overseeing games based on Marvel properties and working with external developers and publishers. Later that year, Marvel Entertainment was acquired by The Walt Disney Company.
In 2014, Jay Ong joined Marvel as vice president of games and led a strategic overhaul of the division. Marvel Games moved toward closer collaboration with developers, greater creative freedom and a more selective approach to licensing, with an increased emphasis on original games rather than titles tied directly to film releases. In 2016, Disney discontinued Disney Infinity and its internally developed console-game business, shifting its console strategy toward licensing its intellectual properties to outside developers and publishers. Marvel Games continued this partnership-based model, collaborating with outside studios on titles including Marvel's Spider-Man, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel Snap and Marvel Rivals.
As part of Disney's corporate restructuring in 2023, the company's global games business was placed within its parks and experiences segment. In March 2026, Disney moved its Games and Digital Entertainment organization into Disney Entertainment. Marvel Games subsequently became part of the Disney Games Group, alongside Disney & Pixar Games, Lucasfilm Games and 20th Century Games.
