Changes 2019–2023 Sue Ayres (Sudbury South West) and Margaret Maybury (Lavenham), both elected as Conservatives, left the party on 26 September 2019 to sit as independents, citing policy disagreements including a proposed renaming of the council. John Ward (Brett Vale), Jan Osborne (Sudbury North West), Adrian Osborne (Sudbury South East) and Mary McLaren (Stour), all elected as Conservatives, left the Conservative group in late April 2022 to reform the Independent Conservative group, following a dispute over the composition of the cabinet. Trevor Cresswell (Sudbury North West), elected as a Labour candidate, became an independent.
