Vreid is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 2004 after Windir's breakup following lead singer and founder Valfar's death. The remaining members and new guitarist Ese formed Vreid. The band's name is old Norwegian for "Wrath".
History Hváll formed a new band with Windir members Hváll (bass), Steingrim (drums), Sture (vocals/guitar), and new guitarist Ese, who co-engineered Windir's Likferd album.
Hváll wrote most of the debut album, Kraft. The lyrics are in Norwegian and English. Tabu Records released Kraft in 2004.
Vreid's second album, Pitch Black Brigade, was released through Tabu Records on 27 March 2006.
The band released their third album, I Krig (At War), through Indie Records in May / June 2007. The lyrics were based on poems from 1946 by Gunnar Reiss-Andersen, a member of the Norwegian resistance during World War II. I Krig is a semi-concept album about war.
In 2009, after their fourth album, Milorg, Ese left the band and was replaced with former Windir and Ulcus guitarist Stian "Strom" Bakketeig. He plays guitar in Cor Scorpii and Mistur as well. Like I Krig, Milorg is about the Norwegian resistance.
In 2010, they released the DVD Vreid Goddamnit, which contains live footage filmed at Inferno Festival. That year, they released the single "Noen Å Hate", a cover of a Raga Rockers song.
On 7 February 2011, Vreid released their fifth album, V.Vreid Issues Update On New Album, DVD blabbermouth.net. 28 July 2010. Retrieved on 2010-07-29.
On 22 February 2013, Vreid released their sixth album, Welcome Farewell.
On 9 October 2015, Vreid released their seventh album, Sólverv.
On 28 September 2018, Vreid released their eight album, Lifehunger.
On 30 April 2021, Vreid released their ninth studio album, Wild North West.
