The 2017 season was Glamorgan County Cricket Club's 130th year of existence and its 97th as a first-class cricket county. In 2017, Glamorgan played in the Second Division of the County Championship, and the South Groups of both the 50-over One-Day Cup and the T20 Blast. It was the second season in charge for head coach Robert Croft. Overseas player Jacques Rudolph started the season as club captain, but relinquished the role to bowler Michael Hogan in May 2017 after announcing he would be retiring at the end of the season. Unlike other counties, Glamorgan competed in limited-overs cricket without a nickname for the fifth year in a row.
The most notable departure for Glamorgan over the winter was former captain and wicket-keeper Mark Wallace, who announced his retirement prior to the start of the season at the age of 35. Other departures included batter James Kettleborough and bowler Dewi Penrhyn Jones, while Owen Morgan, Lukas Carey, Kiran Carlson and Jack Murphy all signed their first contracts with the club. South African fast bowler Marchant de Lange was the club's marquee signing for the 2017 season, arriving on a three-year contract as a non-overseas player thanks to his wife's UK passport, while fellow South African batter David Miller was brought in on a six-game contract to play in the T20 Blast. Middlesex bowler Harry Podmore also joined Glamorgan on a one-month loan at the start of the season after a spell with the Welsh county the previous year.
