The 1960 New Mexico gubernatorial election took place on November 8, 1960, in order to elect the governor of New Mexico. Incumbent Democrat John Burroughs ran for reelection to a second term against his predecessor Republican Edwin L. Mechem in a rematch of the very close 1958 election. This time, Mechem narrowly defeated Burroughs by an even smaller margin than was seen in the previous election.
