Plot Enrique (Ángel Infante) is a young rancher whose estate faces a severe crisis when all his laborers desert the property. Seeking a solution, his housekeeper Nana Pancha (Lupe Inclán) suggests a drastic plan: he must have dozens of children to build his own family labor force to run the hacienda. Spurred by an obsessive desire to secure his lineage and property, Enrique travels to the town of Pénjamo to visit his highly eccentric and absent-minded uncle, Don Porfirio (Joaquín Pardavé).

While there, Don Porfirio inadvertently reveals that Enrique's cousin, Carmela (Rosario Granados), is deeply in love with him. Seeing an immediate opportunity to realize his plan, Enrique marries Carmela so they can instantly begin building their massive family. However, the couple faces immediate heartbreak when they are unable to conceive any children. Frustrated by the lack of success, Enrique begins shifting his attention and affection toward his widowed sister-in-law and her young son, whom he treats as the male heir he desperately craves.

Sensing the impending collapse of her marriage and facing the machinations of her ambitious sister-in-law, a devastated Carmela devises an elaborate deception to fake a pregnancy and keep her husband happy. This sets off a chaotic series of comedic complications and misunderstandings orchestrated by her family and the scatterbrained Don Porfirio. Ultimately, the truth surfaces, forcing Enrique to confront his own flawed motivations and realize his deep love for Carmela, leading to a heartfelt reconciliation that preserves their marriage.
