Paige Craig (born 1974) is an American venture capitalist and the founder and managing partner of Outlander VC, an early-stage venture capital firm. Before entering venture capital, Craig served in the United States Marine Corps and later co-founded the Lincoln Group.
Early life and education
He entered the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1992. In 1995, he dropped out of West Point and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in information technology from the University of Maryland and later earned an MBA from National University.
Career
Craig was promoted to sergeant before leaving the Marine Corps in 2000. After the Invasion of Iraq in 2003, he created the Lincoln Group and started winning Pentagon contracts to assist with "psychological operations". In 2007, he sold his share of the Lincoln Group and moved to Los Angeles in 2008. From 2010 to 2012, he was the CEO and cofounder of BetterWorks, a startup that helped smaller companies offer employee perks and that raised $10.5 million; his co-founders were George Ishii and Sizhao Yang. In May 2012, in what he described as the "lowest point of his professional career", he shut down the company, which told customers it had been unable to sustain a large enough market.
He became an angel investor to over 110 startups from 2008 to 2015. He acquired an early-stage portfolio that included Airbnb, Lyft, AngelList, Postmates, and Klout. In 2015, Craig co-founded the seed fund Arena Ventures with Jeff Lo, where he was a general partner.
