The Syntrophobacterales are an order of the bacterial phylum Desulfobacterota. It is the only member of the class Syntrophobacteria. All genera are strictly anaerobic.Garrity, George M.; Brenner, Don J.; Krieg, Noel R.; Staley, James T. (eds.) (2005). Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology, Volume Two: The Proteobacteria, Part C: The Alpha-, Beta-, Delta-, and Epsilonproteobacteria. New York, New York: Springer. . Many members of the family Syntrophobacteraceae are sulfate-reducing. Some species are motile by using one polar flagellum.

Phylogeny The currently accepted taxonomy is based on the List of Prokaryotic names with Standing in Nomenclature (LPSN) and National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).
