Bascanichthys filaria is an eel in the family Ophichthidae (worm/snake eels).Bascanichthys filaria at www.fishbase.org. It was described by Albert Günther in 1872.Günther, A., 1872 (1 Dec.) [ref. 18195] On some new species of reptiles and fishes collected by J. Brenchley, Esq. Annals and Magazine of Natural History (Series 4) v. 10 (no. 60) (art,. 60): 418-426. It is a tropical, marine eel which is known from Irian Jaya, Indonesia, in the western central Pacific Ocean.
