Carboxypeptidase B (), sometimes also called Carboxypeptidase B1, is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the CPB1 gene. Carboxypeptidase B is a carboxypeptidase that preferentially cleaves off basic amino acids arginine and lysine from the C-terminus of a peptide. This enzyme is secreted by the acinar cells of the pancreas, and it travels to the small intestine, where it aids in protein digestion.
Carboxypeptidase B2 (), sometimes called Plasma carboxypeptidase B, is a related but distinct enzyme responsible for converting the C5a protein into C5a des-Arg, with one less amino acid.
Other names It has also been called protaminase, pancreatic carboxypeptidase B, tissue carboxypeptidase B, and peptidyl-L-lysine [L-arginine]hydrolase.
