Neben den Zentralbanken der jeweiligen Einzelstaaten existieren in Afrika zwei Währungsgemeinschaften, die mit multinationalen Zentralbanken unter französischem Einfluss verbunden sind, die Westafrikanische Zentralbank (UEMOA) und die Zentralafrikanische Zentralbank (BEAC). Währung beider Gemeinschaften ist der CFA-Franc.
