Leben und Wirken Anthony J. Culyer studierte Wirtschaftswissenschaft an der University of Exeter und legte dort 1964 die Bachelorprüfung ab. Nach einem Studienjahr an der University of California, Los Angeles war er von 1965 bis 1969 als wissenschaftlicher Assistent bzw. Dozent an der University of Exeter tätig. Seit 1969 lehrte er an der University of York, ab 1979 als Professor. Sein Arbeitsschwerpunkt ist vor allem die Gesundheitsökonomie. Neben Gastprofessuren u. a. in den USA, Kanada und Neuseeland hat er eine Honorarprofessur an der University of Toronto inne, wo er den Arbeitsbereich Gesundheitsökonomie und -politik aufbaute.
