Tansania ist in 31 Regionen (mkoa in Swahili) gegliedert, 26 liegen auf dem Festland und fünf in Sansibar. mini|Regionen von Tansania
Definition Die Regionen sind die erste Verwaltungsebene in Tansania. Sie sind in der Verfassung von Tansania definiert.
Jede Region wird von einem Regional-Kommissar (Regional Commissioners) verwaltet. Diese werden auf dem Festland vom Präsidenten nach Rücksprache mit dem Premierminister ernannt. In Sansibar ernennt sie der Präsidenten von Sansibar nach Rücksprache mit dem Präsidenten.
Geschichte Bei der Gründung im Jahr 1975 hatte Tansania 25 Regionen.
Im Jahr 2002 wurde die Region Manyara von Arusha abgespalten.
Im Jahr 2012 wurden die Regionen Geita, Katavi, Njombe und Simiyu gegründet.
Im Jahr 2016 wurde die Region Songwe von Mbeya abgespalten und zur 31. Region erklärt.
