Banerjee, K. Nandagopal: Phylogenetic analysis and in silico characterization of the GARS-AIRS-GART gene which codes for a tri-functional enzyme protein involved in de novo purine biosynthesis. In: Molecular biotechnology. Band 42, Nummer 3, Juli 2009, S. 306–319, . PMID 19301155.

Patterson, S. Graw, C. Jones: Demonstration, by somatic cell genetics, of coordinate regulation of genes for two enzymes of purine synthesis assigned to human chromosome 21. In: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Band 78, Nummer 1, Januar 1981, S. 405–409, PMID 6941256. .

Die Phosphoribosylamin-Glycin-Ligase-Domäne erleichtert die Addition von Glycin an 5-Phosphoribosylamin (PRA) zu Glycinamidribonukleotid (GAR).

GART 150px|GAR + 10-Formyl-THF     150px|FGAR + THF

Die Phosphoribosylglycinamid-Formyltransferase (GART) katalysiert die Formylierung von Glycinamidribonukleotid (GAR) zu Formylglycinamidribonukleotid (FGAR) mittels Formyltetrahydrofolat.

AIRS 160px|FGAM + ATP    165px|AIR + ADP + Pi + H2O

Die Phosphoribosylformylglycinamidin-Cyclo-Ligase-Domäne zyklisiert Formylglycinamidinribonukleotid (FGAM) zu 5-Aminoimidazolribonukleotid (AIR).
