Callogorgia chariessa is een zachte koraalsoort uit de familie Primnoidae. De koraalsoort komt uit het geslacht Callogorgia. Callogorgia chariessa werd in 1982 voor het eerst wetenschappelijk beschreven door Frederick M. Bayer. "Some new and old Species of the Primnoid Genus Callogorgia Gray, with a Revalidation of the related Genus Fanellia Gray (Coelenterata: Anthozoa)." Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington (1962), vol. 95 nr. 1, blz. 128 De holotype-kolonie werd verzameld in de Sulu-eilanden, nabij Languyan in de Filipijnse provincie Tawi-Tawi, in februari 1908.
