Xanthichthys is een geslacht van straalvinnige vissen uit de familie van trekkervissen (Balistidae). De wetenschappelijke naam van het geslacht werd voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1856 door Kaup,Kaup, J.J. in Richardson, J. (1856). Ichthyology. In: The Encyclopaedia Britannica, or Dictionary of Arts, Sciences, and General Literature. 8th Edition. Edinburgh. deel 12: 313 die verschillende delen schreef van het door John Richardson verzorgde lemma "Ichthyology" in de achtste editie van de Encyclopaedia Britannica.
