thumb|BR 099 7203 BR (Baureihe) 99 is de verzamelnaam van alle smalspoor stoomlocomotieven van de DRG (Deutsche Reichsbahn Gesellschaft) en zijn opvolgers (DR en DB). Deze reeks is opgedeeld in vele subseries welke zijn opgenomen in onderstaande tabel.
Later werd bij het omzetten van de bouwreeksnummers naar computernummers een controlecijfer toegevoegd. Dit gebeurde bij de Deutsche Bundesbahn in 1968 en werd de klasse voorafgegaan door het cijfer 0 (099 123-x). Bij de Deutsche Reichsbahn gebeurde dit in 1970, daar werd het locomotiefnummer uitgebreid van drie naar vier cijfers (99 1234-x). Het nieuwe viercijferige locomotiefnummer bestond uit het oude drie-cijferige nummer voorafgegaan door een aanvullende code die verwees naar de spoorwijdte van de locomotief: 1 of 4 voor 750 mm, 2 voor 900 mm, 3 voor 600 mm en 5-7 voor 1000 mm.
Met de invoering van de DB-nummerschema's in 1992 werden de toen bij de Deutsche Reichsbahn aanwezige locomotieven als de reeks 099 geherclassificeerd.
