Chang Cheh (Qingtia, 10 februari 1923 - Hongkong, 22 juni 2002) was een van de belangrijkste filmregisseurs uit de Hongkongse filmwereld en wordt ook wel 'The Godfather of Hong Kong Cinema' genoemd.
Biografie Chang Cheh werd geboren op het Chinese vasteland als Chang Yik-Yang. Hij studeerde politiek aan de Nationale Centrale Universiteit (nu Nanking Universiteit). Zijn eerste baan in de filmwereld was als schrijver. Vanaf 1947 schreef hij diverse scenario's voor speelfilms, zijn eerste script was voor de film 'The False Faced Woman', de eerste in Taiwan opgenomen film in het Mandarijn. In 1949 regisseerde hij samen met Cheung Ying zijn eerste film 'Storm Cloud over Alishan'. Daarna verhuisde hij naar Hongkong en trad hij in dienst bij de filmstudio van de Shaw Brothers. Het duurde nog vele jaren voordat hij een echte hitfilm maakte: dit gebeurde ten slotte in 1967 met de klassieker 'One-Armed Swordsman', de eerste film die in Hongkong meer dan één miljoen dollar opbracht. Chang Cheh stierf in 2002 in Hongkong.
Hij was ook bekend onder de namen Zhang Che, Zhang Zheh, Chang Zheh, Cheuh Chang, Cheh Chiang, Chang Chueh, Che Zhang.
