Platynus trifoveolatus is een keversoort uit de familie van de loopkevers (Carabidae).Anichtchenko A. et al., (editors): Carabidae of the World (bezocht: 20 tot 28 maart 2013) De wetenschappelijke naam van deze soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1905 door William Beutenmüller. "Notes on some beetles from the Black Mountains, with descriptions of new species." Bulletin of the American Museum of Natural History vol. 19 (1903), blz. 516
De soort komt voor in de Verenigde Staten. De specimens die Beutenmüller beschreef waren verzameld door H.G. Hubbard in het westen van North Carolina.
